MEC, or Multi-Access Edge Computing, is a network architecture that brings storage and computing as close to applications and users as possible (the Edge) via a connection to 5G cellular technology. It is designed to work seamlessly with the cloud, allowing for a transition from a centralized cloud to a decentralized or distributed cloud.
For enterprise applications to connect via 5G with low latency and access cloud resources for real-time computing, MECs (Multi-access Edge Computing) are often installed close to 5G towers on the enterprise's premises. This is supplemented by a private network design for maximum privacy and security of corporate data, as customer data will not be transmitted outside of the corporate area.
